Otherwise known as gymnastics on horseback, vaulting involves either individuals or groups of up to three people performing movements on a horse.
All the moves are taught on a tin/wooden horse before moving on to the real thing and are practised in walk before moving on to canter. You can progress at your own speed, and need only do moves you feel confident with.
Vaulting, as with any physical activity, is an ideal way to keep fit, active and supple. It is also an excellent way to develop and improve basic riding skills.
Give it a go!
All Rangers are welcome to vault regardless of age or ability. There are various fun and 'have a go' sessions running throughout the year.
Harwich Vaulting Squad
If you are interested in Vaulting on a more regular basis and getting some coaching then you can join Harwich Vaulting Squad. The club runs alongside Rangers and is registered with British Equestrian Vaulting (the national governing body for the sport). You don't have to be a ranger to join.
All Harwich Vaulting Squad members join B.E.V. individually as associate members at an annual cost of £10, but for Horse Rangers this will be partly subsidised so it will only cost £7.50.
Members get loads of benefits including:
Access to other qualified coaches
The opportunity to take part in competitions
You can gain badges through the B.E.V. award scheme
The opportunity to gain B.E.V. and UKCC qualifications
... And loads more!!
Tilly & Blue
Tilly and Blue are spending time relaxing at the moment whilst the weather isn't too brilliant. Blue has a lesson each Monday and hacks out in the week to keep him on the move and we're practicing lungeing for when we kick off the vaulting sessions again.
Harwich Vaulting Squad Sessions
Having a bit of a break at the moment whilst the weather could be better! Watch this space for details of sessions. We'll probably be starting back in March when I can get a booking at Wix.
